Dr Maciej Kawecki, Of Counsel
Dean of the Warsaw School of Banking. In 2016-2017, he was the advisor to the Minister for Digitisation, vice-director and director of the Data Management Department in the same Ministry. He has graduated with a law degree at the Law and Administration Faculty of the Jagiellonian University in Cracow, where he defended his doctoral thesis on EU personal data protection. He also studied at the Stockholm University and J.W. Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. He graduated with honors from European Academy of Diplomacy. In 2015 - 2016, he has worked in the office of the General Personal Data Inspector. In 2016, he has been admitted to the Warsaw Bar Association as an advocate, however, by reasons of his duties he does not practice. In 2017, he has received a special award for his contribution to the reform on personal data protection in the lawyers' competition organised by Gazeta Prawna daily and the publisher Wolters Kluwer - Leaders of Tomorrow. In 2018, he ranked 23rd in the Gazeta Prawna ranking of 50 most influential lawyers in Poland, in 2019 he moved upwards to position15, being recognised as the 'Face of GDPR in Poland'. In 2017, he has been assigned with the task to coordinate the national reform on data protection. He is the President of the Working Group on Personal Data Protection in the Ministry of Digitisation. In 2018, he has been appointed by the Minister for Enterprise and Technology as a member of the Council of the Future Industry Platform Fund. In 2019, he has been appointed by the Minister for Digitisation as the president of council on the cooperation with churches and denominational organisations with regard to data protection. He is also the Assistant Professor at Warsaw University of Technology and an author of numerous publications on security of personal data as well as the co-author of the commentary on GDPR from 2017.
